Northeast USA
Northeast USA Business was on the upside for most companies in the northeast USA, according to the results of the 2005 Sage Software Business Minds Survey, with 63% of companies indicating revenues were up and 54% reporting increased profit. But flip the coin and you find the northeast USA also reporting the highest percentage of companies showing decreased revenue in the past year, with nearly a quarter in that position, and even more, 27%, reporting decreased profits, more than twice the North American average of 12%.
What’s challenging companies in this region?
Like all other regions, pricing pressure is the most significant issue — 51% of the companies reported the concern. But these companies have a plan of attack in mind. They have the highest level of planned increases in investment in both marketing and recruitment of all regions in North America.
Of note for companies in the northeast USA:
  • Highest percentage likely to set up a business again — at 88%, the same as Canada and southeast USA. In keeping, also the highest percent likely to recommend a child to set up their own business.
  • Highest percentage that identify mobile phone as a “must have” technology for conducting business.
