Key Findings - The Sage Software Business Minds Survey was completed by small businesses located in regions throughout North America, providing a view of the key business issues affecting their success.
98% of respondents were under $100 million in annual revenue
23% of respondents were female; 77% were male
85% of respondents were President/Owner/Partner/CEO, a strong indicator of the typical hands-on approach that these business managers apply
Hard-working, optimistic, filled with entrepreneurial passion, and ready to invest for improved business. Those are just a few of the key characteristics of business owners revealed through the 2005 Sage Software Business Minds Survey.

In general, North American small business owners are optimistic with 64% having experienced increased revenue in the past year and 70% projecting increases for the year ahead. Profits were up for 56% of respondents, and 67% forecast increased profits for next year. And if they had the chance to set up a business again, the vast majority would take up the challenge – though 1 in 6 claim they would not set up shop again!
